CORONAVIRUS UPDATE 15 APRIL 2021

Hello to all you fellow Tai Chi-ers from Jock and Richard.
Now that the roadmap out of lockdown has been produced, and the vaccine rollout is proceeding well, it is possible to look forward to the resumption of our Tal Chi classes from 21 June 2021 at the earliest, assuming all goes well and this date is not put back.
Jock has been discussing this situation with the Parsons Heath School but, sadly, has been informed that they have decided not to hire the school hall out in future.
Fortunately, Jock has managed to find an alternative weekly venue at the Highwoods Community Centre, also on Monday nights, but from 8pm until 10 pm. He has taught Tai Chi there in the past, so knows that this hall is slightly larger, with plenty of easy parking available. A possible added bonus, if you fancy doing some shopping either before or after Tai Chi, is that the Highwoods Tesco store is just round the corner! The address is Highwoods Square, with postcode CO4 9SR.
The requirements for meeting indoors when we are able to resume in June will become clearer nearer the time, but we should be expecting to still wear face coverings and to keep socially distant as much as is practicable.
Jock has been keeping in touch with many of you by phone during lockdown, but doesn't have contact details for you all. If you haven't heard from him, rest assured that you are not forgotten, it's just that Jock just doesn't have your number, so could you please ring him on 07772 263172.
Looking forward to seeing you all again, hopefully, in June, Jock and Richard
ABOUT COLCHESTER TAI CHI
Colchester Tai Chi is a group of up to around 30 people who meet on Monday nights at 8pm at Highwoods Community Centre in Colchester in order to practice Tai Chi in a friendly and informal setting.
Although our Tai Chi is based on an ancient Chinese martial art, the exercises we do involve gentle stretching and no violent movements, so are suitable for people of all ages.
After a series of warm up exercises, we do a set of one hundred and eight movements, which takes around fifteen minutes to complete. Whilst each of these movements is relatively straightforward in isolation, the ability to perform all the hundred and eight in the correct sequence is a bit more challenging!
It often takes three or four months before students are able to carry these out in the correct sequence. Fortunately, there are always experienced people on hand for those with less experience to copy if necessary. (And many of the hundred and eight moves are repeated, so that the problem is not really as daunting as it might seem at first.)

The benefits of Tai Chi are said to include greater mobility and improvement of the flow of fluids around the body. It is often described as a moving meditation, as a high degree of concentration is required in order to do all the moves in the right order.

If you would like to find out more, why not phone our instructor, Jock, on 07772 263172 and arrange to come along to one of our Monday sessions to see for yourself.

NEW BEGINNERS
New Beginner Classes are not available at present, but a new series may start up later this year, and we would be happy to see you there. The start date will be shown on this website once agreed. As far as clothing is concerned, just wear flat-soled shoes and something you can move comfortably in.

If you do decide to join us, please note that we each pay a subscription of £4 per night (£12 per month) to cover the costs of hiring the hall and insurance.
